Welcome to my website! I am Kwong Weng, and I've created this site to pen down my thoughts. Join me as I share about my travels and interests with you.

About

Triip-ing It

Work and education brought me around the world and broadened my perspectives. In the past years, I have worked and studied in Southeast Asia and the West. I've also volunteered locally and overseas with the Metta School, Red Cross and Global Dignity.

Back in 2014, I co-founded a start-up called Triip.me with Hai Ho. While having a bowl of Vietnamese noodles (better known as Pho) one day, we decided to start a tour agency that offers authentic experiences which involves not only the travellers, but also the locals. Today, it's a tech-travel platform that allows travellers, like you and me, to benefit in cost savings as we enjoy our travels in over 100 countries!

Leap

Over the years, I've taken a path less travelled and it has given me a different outlook on life. There were turning points along the way; one of them was to work as a General Manager in Myanmar with an energy company that deals with oil blocks and gas supplies. During my time there, I found the lack of technology an essential obstacle to overcome. I had to adapt and this sparked my initial curiosity.

In Leap, I penned down my Myanmar experiences while I worked there. It highlights stories of sacrifices and progress when it opened up. Read more here:

VR AI Learning Lab in KPMG Singapore

Accidental AI

I am not a scientist nor a coder, maybe a tech enthusiast. As I learn more, I am convinced that our future workplace will changed drastically with automation and artificial intelligence. AlphaGo has shown us just that as it discovers new methods of problem solving when we thought we knew it all. I am curious to explore what new tech can bring, and this has fueled me to the build and deploy it in business functions to optimise resources and improve lives.

Currently, I have set up the KPMG-A*STAR Joint Lab, which aims to digitalise professional services. We started to explore the effectiveness of Virtual Reality (VR) in business to make the learning processes fun and easy.

Writing

Writing allows me to reflect on life and raise awareness on important issues. It is also an interesting way to express how we feel, influence what others think and share the world's beauty through episodes. I have cut down on writing due to work commitments, but you can find my past pieces under the Articles section below
